Unified Scout Group hosted an educational awareness session on gender-based violence and human trafficking on Saturday.
The initiative was done in collaboration with the Department of Health’s Clinical Forensic Medical Services.
The session, which was attended by Discoverers (seven to 10), Pathfinder Scouts (11-14 ), Venture Scouts (15-18, and three Master Guides, aimed to educate the youth on the critical issues affecting their lives and communities.
The session was led by Martha Nkutha, at the Kwa-Thema Library. The youth members were actively engaged, asking relevant questions and sharing their thoughts and experiences.

The facilitators provided valuable insights and guidance, empowering the young participants to make informed decisions and take action against gender-based violence and human trafficking.
“We aim to highlight the importance of empowering the youth with knowledge and skills to address critical issues affecting their lives and communities.
“We wish to promote education, awareness, and community engagement among young people,” said Tebogo Rakgabyane, the acting group scout leader at Unified Scout Group.
Following the awareness session, the Unified Scout Group was treated to an informative tour of the Kwa-Thema Library, led by assistant librarians Nana Rampedi and her colleague.

The librarians provided an overview of the library’s services and encouraged the youth members to take advantage of the resources available to them.
The young participants were inspired to explore the library’s literature, spending over an hour browsing the shelves and discovering new books and authors.
The Unified Scout Group has a packed programme of activities planned for the year, including edutainment and outdoor events.
