India National Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir has stunned one and all by selecting Harry Brook as England’s Player of the Series in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. Gautam Gambhir picked Harry Brook ahead of the liked England captain Ben Stokes, Ben Duckett, and Joe Root.
The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 came to an exciting end as India pulled off a dramatic six-run win over England in the fifth and final Test at The Oval, leveling the Test series 2-2 on Monday. August 4. Mohammed Siraj dominated with a five-wicket haul to help India win the Oval thriller.

Apart from the nail-biting finish of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, fans were left amazed with the winners of the Player of the Series. Actually, there is a long-standing tradition that the coach of the visiting team selects the best performer from the home side, while the home team’s coach picks a player from the visiting team.

For this test, named Harry Brook as England’s Player of the Series, while England coach Brendon McCullum picked Indian captain Shubman Gill for the same honor. The Indian head coach’s decision to go with Harry Brook stunned many, as Ben Stokes, Joe Root, and Ben Duckett were also excellent.
While Joe Root was the top run-scorer of the Test series for England with 537 runs and Duckett followed closely with 462, Ben Stokes made an amazing all-round impact with 304 runs and 17 wickets in just four Tests against India.

On the other hand, Brook scored 481 runs in the Test series at an average of over 53 and a strike rate of more than 81. His fearless batting and consistent performances under pressure left many impressed.
Interestingly, Brook made most of the runs on the green wicket, including his blazing knock of 111 runs off just 98 balls that had almost taken the game away from India at The Oval.
However, Gautam Gambhir is yet to reveal why he picked Brook, but many felt his contribution in the crucial phases of the matches may have forced the Indian head coach to go ahead with England’s white-ball captain for the honor.

Harry Brook admits shock, but hails Mohammed Siraj’s magic
After being adjudged as England’s Player of the Series, Brook said that he was confident that England would win the final Test and lift the trophy. However, the Englishman praised the way India fought back, especially Mohammed Siraj’s bowling.
Brook said Siraj deserved all the credit for his efforts, highlighting how he bowled fast and consistently through all five tests in England. Brook said at the post-match presentation, “We came into the day this morning very confident. Obviously, we had two very good players out there at the time, and I just thought we were going to easily see it home.
Obviously, the way the Indians fought back there and the way that Siraj bowled especially, I think he deserved every success there. Siraj has played five Test matches in a row, bowling 85 plus every ball. And he’s had a phenomenal series, and I respect him a lot for what he’s done this series.”
