Duduza – Self-taught filmmaker Elson Murure will release his latest film, Reedoma & the Secret Forest, on Youth Day. The 32-year-old founder of 3rd Press Films and 3rd Academy House stated that his mission has always been to uplift talent from townships.
“Some of us can’t afford tertiary education to follow our dreams. But through motivation and passion, we can succeed together,” he said.
According to Murure, the word ‘Reedoma’ is inspired by freedom.
“Why freedom? Because we face daily challenges, and the more we run from them, the more life seems to weigh us down.
“This story follows a young man who keeps fighting because going back isn’t an option. He has to face reality and stay strong.”
Murure hopes the film will inspire young people who’ve been rejected for funding or couldn’t study film due to financial barriers.
“Maybe their parents couldn’t pay for school or a camera. This project shows that sometimes, you have to step up and create change. If you avoid a problem, it only grows,” he said.
Reedoma & the Secret Forest, written and directed by Murure, was filmed in Duduza and will be released in four episodes. The first two episodes debut on June 16, followed by episode three on August 16 and the final episode on September 16.
The film features local actors Innocent Mahlophe, Siyabonga Mokoena, Nqobile Patience Mhlaba, Xolile Dzingwa, Bongane Hlela, Thuli Mdaka, Gloria Mthembu, Biggie Siyabonga, Thandanzo M, and Nkosinathi Ndwande.
