A Virginia lawmaker was doused in gasoline and set alight at his office in a ‘personal attack’ by an unhinged local man, police say.  Danville City Councilman J. Lee Vogler, 38, was at the Showcase Magazine HQ when Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes, 29, stormed in at around 11.30am, it is alleged. Hayes dumped the contents of a ‘five gallon container’ on top of Vogler before setting him alight, according to the publication’s owner Andrew Brooks.He has now been charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated malicious wounding. Betting giant Betfair is facing a AUD 871,660 ($566,348) penalty after sending messages to VIP customers that don’t comply with Australian spam laws. Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has announced that it will be charging Betfair with the penalty for sending commercial messages that didn’t comply with national spam laws, after an investigation. The examination revealed that Betfair sent 148 emails and text messages between March and December 2024 to VIP customers that did not consent or had withdrawn consent for such communication.
