Impatho Drive approached the SAPS with the initiative, which is aimed at giving back to communities within Ekurhuleni, and Mgongo was identified as the annual beneficiary for this year.
Men, women, and children of all ages received winter and summer clothes. School uniforms were also distributed to children.
Clothes were sorted according to size, and children had a separate station from the adults.
“The people were given the opportunity to pick different types of clothes in groups of 10 at a time while the children were assisted by CPF volunteers individually to pick clothes, including school uniforms,” said Constable Audrey Buthelezi, Brakpan SAPS Sector 1 manager and communications officer. Every community member in attendance went home with clothes.
Stakeholders ensured a smooth and peaceful process throughout.
“The community members expressed gratitude and appreciation for the donations. The Impatho Drive members extended gratitude towards the joint effort and further to the law enforcement agencies for their support during the event.”
Brakpan SAPS acknowledged the humbling work done by the NPO and cited the beginning of a firm and healthy relationship, which will assist the SAPS in reaching out to communities and strengthening communications.
The other stakeholders involved were the Brakpan CPF, crime prevention wardens, Secure Tech Security and Village of Hope (NPO).
